EnGeniousAg Joins CropX

Why did we acquire ENGENIOUSAG?

New Technology for Nitrogen Efficiency

Learn more about investment and partnership opportunities.

New Tech from Experts in the Field

In September of 2024, CropX acquired EngeniousAg, a manufacturer of low-cost, high-performance nitrogen sensors for crops, soils, and water. The sensors are field-based and provide an instant readout for farmers to leverage real-time data when making fertilization decisions.

EngeniousAg was part of the Iowa State University I-Corps Site program and was co-founded by four university professors. The innovative sensor technology they developed makes instant nitrogen level testing accessible to farmers.

The nitrogen sensor developed by EngeniousAg will add new data to the CropX agronomic farm management platform, utilizing AI-assisted advanced analytics to understand a complete picture of nitrogen dynamics in a given field. CropX users are already able to continuously monitor for leaching events using the CropX soil sensor, and once the EnGeniousAg nitrogen sensor is added to the CropX system, it will offer even more precise knowledge for optimizing fertilizer applications.

Reducing Nitrogen Loss

Nitrogen fertilizer is one of the costliest inputs on a farm, making fertilizer efficiency a bottom line problem for farmers everywhere. It is also a profound environmental problem when nitrogen fertilizers escape into the environment. Nitrogen easily evades plant uptake by converting into a gas or entering water systems through runoff or leaching. This adds greenhouse gases to the atmosphere and destabilizes aquatic ecosystems. Each year, dead zones, such as those in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Florida coast, emerge at the mouths of the world’s great river systems, devoid of aquatic life. Farmers and society are eager to find solutions that maximize nitrogen uptake and minimize its expensive, damaging waste. CropX is ready to tackle this persistent problem with a solution that growers are motivated to implement.

Building a Complete Agronomic Solution

By acquiring best-in-class technologies from around the world, CropX adds capabilities that increase the impact of the CropX system. Not simply for irrigation anymore, CropX offers growers an easy-to-use, comprehensive agronomic planning and decision-tool that gathers and transforms farm data into meaningful agronomic insights. These insights help growers save water, energy, labor and inputs while protecting and boosting yields.

Bringing a Needed Solution to Growers Worldwide

Since 2019, CropX has completed 6 successful acquisitions of agtech startups to continue the build-out of the CropX agronomic farm management system.

The CropX R&D team works quickly to incorporate new technology and knowledge into the easy-to-use CropX platform. CropX team has post-merger integration down to a science, using a global approach to bring the best of the best to the agtech market with proven results.
