Senior Agronomist at Tactical AGA Talks about on-field CropX Experience – Australia (1:54)

Transcript

My name’s Wayne Firth I’m a senior agronomist with Tactical AGA. I’m in a cornfield that’s monitored with CropX. CropX has allowed us to allocate water on a basis of need per field rather than on a date schedule so we can prioritize the water to the fields that require it the most

Our fields here are not big they’re only about 25 hectares and most fields have a CropX soil sensor installed. One soil probe per field seems adequate for the farm because there are about 1250 hectares of corn here so we’ve got quite a few soil sensors spread across the farm that allow us to keep track of what’s happening.

One of the big benefits of CropX has been labor savings.

We can either access the data on a computer in the office or we can access it in the field on the app. The app’s quite user friendly and the installation of the probe doesn’t take very long. It’s quite easy to do.

The app allows us to set a full soil moisture point and a recharge point. We can adjust those through the season if necessary. It also allows us to track moisture over time.

Not trying to predict when future irrigations are going to be is something else that’s an advantage. The app allows us to send automatic alerts when a field gets to a certain moisture level. The app will send the irrigators a text to tell them that soil moisture is getting low. That’s been quite handy particularly on weekends when we’ve got a few less staff.
