A key factor for this decision is how much water the crop has used since the last irrigation. For most, this is an educated guess that considers weather, soil, crop type and maturity and regional ag advice. You can go a long way with this, but irrigating in times of scarcity and competition requires a higher degree of precision \u2013 you want to give your crop just what it needs, no more, no less. For decades, knowledge of crop water use at the field-level has been used by scientists but has remained inaccessible to farms due to cost and complexity. Now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aboldnewera.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new solutions<\/a> are revolutionizing precision irrigation with unmatched accuracy in real-time field water use measurement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is Evapotranspiration (ET)?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Evapotranspiration (ET) is the combined effects of water evaporating from soil and plant surfaces and transpiration from within plant tissues. However, the most relevant measure for farmers is Actual Evapotranspiration (ETa), which represents the real water use of a field, taking into account the environmental conditions, the plant canopy size, and water stress.
